All these films were made fast and cheap but you can see the Duke grow as an actor. He makes the films worthwhile. Winds of the Wasteland is a pretty good film.

My favourite John Wayne story. The Duke had of course made numerous movies for John Ford, but when he saw him in Howard Hawks' Red River Ford remarked, "Goddamit, I didn't know the sonofabitch could act."
