The Marvel of Disney
I was thinking about Disney buying Marvel and really dosen't matter to me anymore, i stopped reading Marvel years ago. I was never the biggest Marvel fan out there but i had two favorite Marvel hereos, Iron Man and Daredevil. To me DD and Iron Man are Marvel's best creations, Iron Man combined super-hero action with SciFi and DD was the loner hero (not un-like Batman at times over at DC) who never stopped or gave up and he didn't whine about everything like Spider-Man. I have no clue what's going on with these two characters now but i think i enjoyed the Iron Man movie because it was like the comic back in the old days, i liked the DD movie but i think Elektra part just dragged it down.
I always wanted a DD/Batman book and paired Iron Man with the Flash (Barry Allen of course) in their own book. Would have made the young me very happy.
The two covers up there are the first DD and Iron Man comics i bought (probably had extra change from buying DC comics).
Disney To Buy Marvel
Disney is buying Marvel Comics for 4 Billion Dollars.
THE NEW YORK TIMES
Published: August 31, 2009
The Walt Disney Company said Monday that it would buy the comic book giant
Marvel Entertainment for about $4 billion.
Under the terms of the deal, Marvel shareholders will receive a $30 a share in
cash plus about 0.745 Disney shares for each Marvel share they own. The boards
of both companies have approved the deal, which was valued at $50 a share.
With the acquisition, Disney will acquire more than 5,000 Marvel characters,
including Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk and the X-Men.
“We believe that adding Marvel to Disney’s unique portfolio of brands provides
significant opportunities for long-term growth and value creation,” the chief
executive of Disney, Robert A. Iger, said in a statement.
Ike Perlmutter, Marvel’s chief executive, said: “Disney is the perfect home for
Marvel’s fantastic library of characters given its proven ability to expand
content creation and licensing businesses. This is an unparalleled opportunity
for Marvel to build upon its vibrant brand and character properties by accessing
Disney’s tremendous global organization and infrastructure around the world.”
Mr. Perlmutter will oversee the Marvel properties, and will work directly with
Disney’s global lines of business to build and further integrate Marvel’s
properties.
The acquisition comes as Disney, with its vast theme park operations and
television advertising business, has been struggling because of soft advertising
sales at ABC and ESPN and drooping consumer spending at theme parks. Disney’s
profit in the third quarter, which ended June 27, dropped 26 percent.
Over all, Disney’s net income fell to $954 million, or 51 cents a share, from
$1.28 billion, or 66 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Revenue fell 7
percent, to $8.6 billion. Earnings per share for the current quarter included a
one-cent restructuring charge related to an accounting gain. Excluding that
charge, Disney narrowly beat Wall Street’s expectations.

Ballad Of Bilbo Baggins
Leonard Nimoy singing the Ballad of Bilbo Baggins.
Stunning...illogical...a true classic of the "It's just wrong".
Tumblred
Tumblr seems a bit wonky tonight, dos attack?, bad connection from my end? or just too many tumblring tonight?
I wanted to spend a few hours posting pics with bad puns there and reblogging/liking posts.
Guess i'll graze through google image searches and LJ for a few good pics, maybe i'll screencap some new ones.

Insomnia Stream Of Thoughts
Can't sleep, so i'll wait to see if the shuttle goes up if the weather clears but it looks like a scrub and as i type a scrub. 24 hour turnaround before another try.
Now what will i watch and do through the long lonely sleepless night?
I'm a babbling chatterbox here and i usually reserve that for LJ.
You know i'm strangely attracted to Flo from the Progressive ads, think i'll pop her into this post.
Awww isn't she cute?
5 and now almost 6 days without hearing from someone very dear to me is depressing me, i'm about the un-luckiest guy when comes to romance and women, so naturally i worry.
I know none of this makes any sense to you few who read but i'll be back posting pics and videos later today when the sun is shining.

Patty Duke Show
The Blame Game
When did politicians and pundits turn everything into a "Blame Game"?
We are swamped during election time with million dollar blame blame ads. On tv we have people hosting shows that do nothing but blame people instead of solutions or any real issue solving advice.
I don't think Liberal or Conservative are bad words but both are used as labels to cover rampant hate in this country.
Just be honest, don't blame President Obama for being a head of some conspiracy because he's a Black man and you hate that he won, he is trying to run America the best way he can, just like all the previous Presidents and it wouldn't be America if they we're allc lones of each other. And Sarah Palin isn't some grand uber leader trying to turn America into some pseudo 1950's wanna be land, she just has a talent for saying stupid things, nothing wrong with that, we all do it.
I say take the hate mongers and blamers (on both sides) and take them off the air (naturally this won't happen because they all make too much money and that's the point of everything isn't, to make money).
I hate labels, labels are used by people to jusitfy their hate.

Archie marries Veronica
I don't think i've read an Archie comic in a very looooong time (thinking about how long makes me feel my age) but it seems the Archieverse has caused an uproar with the Archie marries Veronica. Now i've always liked Veronica but i never thought Archie would make it to "first base" with her and Betty would be the one for him.
I'm thinking these issues are in the tradition of DC's Imaginary Stories and Marvel's What if? stories.
If you ask me Veronica isn't the right choice for the old perpetual carrot topped teen and it's Betty he'll marry.
I bet Archie will sell a bunch of copies, which isn't a bad thing for a comic in these days of low readership.

Les Paul
We've lost a true legend, Les Paul has died at 94.
"Les Paul, the guitarist and inventor who changed the course of music with the electric guitar and multitrack recording and had a string of hits, many with wife Mary Ford, died on Thursday. He was 94.
According to Gibson Guitar, Paul died of complications from pneumonia at White Plains Hospital. His family and friends were by his side."
King Kirby
I've read and collected comics for most of my life, i remember looking at comics before i could read. First comic i saw was the Justice League of America. Loved DC comics ever since but i skip most of the stuff they make now, really it's god awful.
Never been much of a Marvel fan but i did like Daredevil and Iron Man, Batman and Flash (Barry Allen) are my favorite DC heroes. Gave up on Superman when they did the Superman dies crap.
Now getting to the point after that rambling paragraph of nostalgia and history i have to confess...i can't stand the late great Jack "King" Kirby's art, i know i'll be burned as a heretic by Kirby worshippers. The man had talent and created some amazing stuff like Kamandi,New Gods and the Marvel charcters that Stan "I take all the credit" Lee and he made.
But i hate his artwork, to me it's clunky and busy and seemed static.
Give me Joe Kubert,Russ Heath,Curt Swan,Jim Aparo, Russ Manning, John Byrne and many more.
I know Mr Kirby was a wonderful person, don't think i ever read a bad thing about him. I think maybe Kirby's art was a reason i never liked AMrvel too much that and Stan Lee's "writing".
I've never read anyone say they didn't like his art, so thought i'd voice my opinion and it's only mine.
