Atomic Beach Party Volume One! (2001)
The perfect disc for all your radiated fun in the nuclear winter sun beach party from Abominable Records.
What, you've never heard of this album or that record company? Well of course you haven't it was my own computer based record company and we never sold a single cd or would have since i would have never sold any discs, i made copies of another Abominable Records cd ( i wonder if they still have their copies?). Abominable Records only existed from 199 to 2001 i believe. I just ripped some tracks off Atomic Beach Party that i didn't have on this computer and gave me this idea for a post.
Here's the track list :
Beach Boys - Fun Fun Fun
Donnas - School's Out
Cramps - Bikini Girls With Machine Guns
Ventures - Walk Don't Run
Shonen Knife - Banana Chips
Ghastly Ones - Surfin' Spooks
Smashmouth - Walking on The Sun
Go-Go's - Surfin' and Spying
Annette - Beach Party
Chantays - Pipeline
Dickies - Tricia Toyota
Pyramids - Penetration
Tornadoes - Bustin' Surfboards
Sakura & The Quests - My Boy Lollipop
Surf Punks - My Beach
Pixies - Wave Of Mutilation
? and the Mysterians - 96 Tears
Surfaris - Wipe Out
Descendents - Wendy
Beachnuts - Cycle Annie
Blondie - Love At The Pier
Astronauts - The Hearse
Ramones - Surfin' Safari
Shatners - He's Dead Jim
Annette & the Beach Boys - Monkey's Uncle
Dick Dale - Miserlou
Trashmen - Surfin' Bird
Belairs - Mr. Moto
Ramones - Sheena Is A Punk Rocker
Lively Ones - Surf Rider
I think that was pretty good line up and mix of songs, from surf rock to punk rock. The Beachnuts tune is rare - it's Lou Reed from the early 60's when he was pop song writer before VU.
Volume 2 would have had the Shaggs "My Pal Foot Foot" and Sloppy Seconds "Horror Of Party Beach" to name a couple.
It seems the time of homemade cd are gone now.

It Was 30 Years Ago Today
It feels strange and odd that John Lennon has been dead for 30 years, his music stays alive (with and without the Beatles) and so does his spirit. I was watching Monday Night Football when Howard Cosell announced the news that John had been shot and then later was dead, i was shocked and numb from the news.
I grew up with the Beatles, i can't explain how much the Beatles were a part of our lives, you just had to be there. With his death a door was closed, i never thought the Beatles would ever get back together.
Imagine if more people listened to his words.
Thank you John.

Jimmy Dean

More bad news i just read over at Eye Of Polyphemus , he's posted a video there : http://jeffords.blogspot.com/2010/06/jimmy-dean-1928-2010.html
Jimmy Dean has died. I remember watching his variety show growing up which had my favorite muppet on it, Rowlf and Dean co-starred on Daniel Boone for a few seasons. He even got to star in a James Bond back in 1971 "Diamonds Are Forever".Who could forget his Jimmy Dean Sausage ads back in the 70's and 80's.
Thanks Jimmy, rest in peace

Picture Sleevs A Go Go
Gotta love that title and if you love classic 45 picture sleeves this is the blog for you. Larry has created a blog for all of us who remember (and those who came later but love music) when records where records and came in sleeves to sell the 45.

The Peanuts
Wonderful video of the Peanuts through the years. You remember the Peanuts they were the ones who originally sang "Mosura".
I think the cuteness of the Peanuts have broken the Heino mind control!

16 Tons
Tennessee Erne Ford
Some people say a man is made outta mud
A poor man's made outta muscle and blood
Muscle and blood and skin and bones
A mind that's a-weak and a back that's strong
You load sixteen tons, what do you get
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store
I was born one mornin' when the sun didn't shine
I picked up my shovel and I walked to the mine
I loaded sixteen tons of number nine coal
And the straw boss said "Well, a-bless my soul"
You load sixteen tons, what do you get
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store
I was born one mornin', it was drizzlin' rain
Fightin' and trouble are my middle name
I was raised in the canebrake by an ol' mama lion
Cain't no-a high-toned woman make me walk the line
You load sixteen tons, what do you get
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store
If you see me comin', better step aside
A lotta men didn't, a lotta men died
One fist of iron, the other of steel
If the right one don't a-get you
Then the left one will
You load sixteen tons, what do you get
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store
Classic song from before most of us were born, sadly in tune with today's economy.

Les Paul

We've lost a true legend, Les Paul has died at 94.
"Les Paul, the guitarist and inventor who changed the course of music with the electric guitar and multitrack recording and had a string of hits, many with wife Mary Ford, died on Thursday. He was 94.
According to Gibson Guitar, Paul died of complications from pneumonia at White Plains Hospital. His family and friends were by his side."
