Zulu

Cal was talking about Zulu Dawn over at the Cave of Cool, the prequel to Zulu made abour 15 years later. It's a good film but for me Zulu is the best. Stanley Baker (my favorite Welsh actor), Michael Caine ( no this wasn't his first film no matter what the "And introducing Michael Caine" credit says) and some great British actors like Nigel Green, Jack Hawkins ( not sure if this was before he lost his voice to cancer or after) and many more.
It's a darn good well made film with drama, adventure and all done without cgi, mindless camera pans, mtv like whiplash editing. It's the way films should be made.
You'll Enjoy Zulu, go see it if you haven't.

  1. Guess I need to watch them again - it's been so long, I hardly remember either film.

  2. I did a review of this way back in the early days of my blog. It is a terrific film and you can see how great Michael Caine would be after this early performance.

  3. Stanley Baker was a great actor who deserves to be better known to modern audiences.

  5. Cal i've heard Michael saying he watched how royalty walked with their hands behind their backs and so he had his character do that and one of the Producers wanted to fire for it. LOL

  6. D, Stanley deserves to be remembered better but he died early and that might be the reason he isn't more famous.
