Gripes

A few things that annoy me.

*Michael Jackson coverage, it's been almost a month now since he died, find something else to talk about and bury the guy he's gotta be getting pretty ripe by now.*

*Doctor Who "fans" who are announcing they won't watch the next series because the actor is too young, new companion is too young, his clothes aren't "Whoiish enough", they changed the sonic screwdriver, they're changing the TARDIS inside and outside (this is actually been done because they're filming in High Def)etc etc. Sadly this pre-judgement of Doctor Who has been for every new actor and series since Whovians found the internet and in the UK since the 80's*

*News, when i watch tv for news...i want news not opinions, not how to advice, not someone with a political agenda, not entertainment gossip and please stop turning news into the National Enquirer*

*Teen vampires books and movies (At least Buffy had a sense of humor amongst it's emo). When i was a teen i didn't want read stuff like this. I guess it does get them to read a book but what of the cost to good literature and good movies?*

*People who yell and scream about something being racist and make way too much of something are usually the biggest bigots "Some of my best friends are..."*

*Comics, what is the deal with all the dead zombie heroes crap going on with Marvel and DC? Who are they selling these comics to? I'm not reading them. And really most art in comics now sucks (damn you Rob Liefeld!) and the writing style of "Hey i can totally screw up Spidey here and the fans will love me, oh got a call from DC must figure out a way to kill Batman again!". Wednesday Comics...trees died for this? Only the Metamorpho and Metal Men stories were good (Kamandi has beautiful art though) but it isn't worth the cost.*

*blu-ray or it blows-ray, not worth the money. There's nothing wrong with DVD it dosen't need replacing.*

*Twitter, still a piece of crap if you ask me. I do have a twitter and my last twittering ever was "GET A LIFE"*

*Megan Fox, why does everyone hate her? I don't think i've ever seen her in anything but she seems to be on a lot tv talk shows. Is she a bad actress or one of the many new Hollywood famous for being famous people? She is cute*

*Reality shows, they suck me in...i can't stop watching them! I need more old tv shows DVDs...please send them to me Drake at the Eclectic Banana!* ;)

*I don't think i'm a very good blogger yet but i'm trying*

*Everything i eat and enjoy is bad for me, i'm committing food suicide.*

*Global warming, i might be wrong but i don't see it happening. I actually think we're going into a cool down and ice age*

*Peta, if i actually saw them help an animal instead of fear, hate and celeb ass kissing campaigns, i'd actually have some respect for them. I love animals but support only groups that actually help animals, to rescue strays, feed them, control the over-population of feral cats and dogs, the stopping animal abuse like dog fighting.*

OK that's enough, i'm really a sweet guy and not that much of griper. :)

Solana

Things i found online when i Google image searched my last name. Solana is spanish and we came to Florida in the 1590's. Solana is old Spanish for "Sunny place" and we came from the Valley of Solana in Espana.

I really have too much time on my hands.

Dean Martin

Dean Martin is one of my favorite actors, i don't think he ever got the recognition for being a great actor. Everyone remembers him teamed with Jerry Lewis as the straight man ( a job that's pretty hard to do, anchoring a loose cannon like Mr. Lewis ) and when they broke up all Hollywood gossips predicted doom for his career. But he got a chance and had great friends, to act. He was one of the best crooners of all time ( basing his crooning style on the Mills Brothers and not Bing Crosby as many believe )and for an Italian kid from Ohio he made a pretty decent Cowboy star. Watch a Dino movie soon, you'll enjoy it, i recommend Rio Bravo, Ocean's 11 and the Matt Helm films.
I salute Dino with a few random screen caps.

HOT BABE PIC!

As i understand it, if you want a kajillion hits at your blog you need to pander to the "looking for hot babe pics nerds" out there. Now there's nothing wrong with looking at a beautiful woman or "babe" and so i bow to the great internet gods to the great flying spaghetti god, whatever.
Morticia Addams...no hotter babe if you ask me.
"Tish that's French!"

Christopher Lee Pic Of The Week

The Devil Rides Out
Wonderful film and Sir Lee gets to be the hero!

Movie Quotes

15 quotes from 15 movies i like. Guess the movie if you like and cool if you don't.
It's just a lonely night here in the cave, need something to do.

1- My love, precious jewel and noble wife. Severed, too quickly, too cruelly from this life. I alone remain to give delivery of your pain. Nine killed you. Nine shall die. Nine times, nine! Nine killed you! Nine shall die! Nine eternities in DOOM! - Richard Doyle

2- Sorry don't get it done, Dude. That's the second time you hit me. Don't ever do it again.

3- You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off! - Richard Doyle & Jamie Jeffords

4- I'm FIRST in line! and if you don't like it, you can put it where the monkey puts the nuts!

5- When a naked man is chasing a woman through an alley with a butcher's knife and a hard-on, I figure he isn't out collecting for the Red Cross. Richard Doyle & Jamie Jeffords

6- It's the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs. I've outrun Imperial starships. Not the local bulk cruisers mind you, I'm talking about the big Corellian ships now. She's fast enough for you old man. What's the cargo? Richard Doyle & Jamie Jeffords

7- When you hang a man, you better look at him. - Jamie Jeffords

8- I met him, fifteen years ago. I was told there was nothing left. No reason, no conscience, no understanding; even the most rudimentary sense of life or death, good or evil, right or wrong. I met this six-year-old child, with this blank, pale, emotionless face and, the blackest eyes... the *devil's* eyes. I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up because I realized what was living behind that boy's eyes was purely and simply... *evil*. - Richard Doyle

9- An anti-American eagle. It's diabolical.

10-Ejector seat? You're joking! - Richard Doyle

11-You hear that Mr. Anderson?... That is the sound of inevitability... It is the sound of your death... Goodbye, Mr. Anderson... - Richard Doyle & Jamie Jeffords

12-I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.

13-I'm not dying yet. I have to kill quite a few men first.

14-Runner...you are terminated. - Richard Doyle & Jamie Jeffords

15-Oh, Nicky, I love you because you know such lovely people. - Jamie Jeffords

Number 11

Doctor Who is best because it goes to 11..
Filming started today on the news series of Doctor Who starring the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith and with a new companion Amy Pond (Played by Karen Gillan).
I'm a huge Doctor Who and have been since Jon Pertwee was the Third Doctor (Still the best Doctor ever, why yes i am biased).
The Doctor is in good hands with new producer Steven Moffat and i can't wait to see the new series.

Mystery Fiction LJ Theatre

In a country manor we find the world's greatest consulting detective and his friend Doctor John Watson.
Sherlock Holmes stands up with a smirk on his lips.
"So Holmes, he was killed by the duck?" Watson asked while looking at the corpse covered with feathers.
"Exactly Watson! It was Murder Most FOWL!" Watson hit Holmes over the head with his brolly.

Abbey Road

The first album i ever bought for myself, the Beatles Abbey Road. I think it was either in 1970 or 1971. I was in Junior High and remembering i wanted this album so badly. I think it was my third album in my vinyl collection (Wooly Bully and Everything's Archie were my first two, Christmas gifts), from the Archies to the Beatles and my next album was a Santana album. I still have them all.

And That's The Way It Is

The most trusted man in America has passed away at 92, Walter Cronkite the legendary reporter, newsman and CBS anchorman died today.
I can't explain to the younger generation what it meant to watch "Uncle Walter" do the news on CBS. I remember him most for his coverage of the space race and the irony of this weekend's 40th anniversary of Apollo 11 landing on the moon, i had just turned 12 back in 1969 and was there watching the landing as Cronkite reported on it. When i think of the Apollo 11 i hear Cronkite's voice.
Goodbye Uncle Walter.

Peter and Gordon

I just heard that Gordon Waller of Peter & Gordon has passed away.
Rest in Peace Gordon and thankyou for the music.

Christopher Lee Pic Of The Week

You just cannot get enough Christopher Lee pics on the web, so the Eclectic Banana Blog will do their part!
For the first picture (all screen caps by me your kindly and just a bit odd host)we go with a classic film.
Dracula or as we in the colonies know it as Horror Of Dracula from that great horror factory Hammer Films.
I shall try to post pics throughout Sir Lee's long and varied film career.
Enjoy!

Riff!

Happy Birthday PJ Soles, you'll always be Riff Randall "Rock 'n' Roller" and the Ramones number one fan to me :)

Coolest Cop Show Ever?

I'm a fan of police/detective shows, from the veddy British mystery shows from the UK and their 70's hard as nails cop drama "The Sweeney" ("Put your trousers on, you're NICKED!"), from Dragnet to Law & Order. The coolest show of all in my humble opinion is Hawaii Five-O.
Jack Lord was born to play Steve McGarrett, this is the role he'll always be remembered for (If the Bond producers hadn't been afraid of him upstaging Connery as Bond, Lord would have been back as Felix Leiter after Dr. No) and what's surprising is Lord wasn't the first choice. The pilot was about to be filmed and they lost the actor who was playing McGarrett (quit or fired? not sure) at the absolute last minute Lord got the call and tv history was made.
The episodes and villains are some of the best and being filmed in Hawaii helped the series capture the audience and it stayed on the air from 1968 to 1980. Who can forget Wo Fat?
Just watched one of my favorite episodes, "Hookman" about a double amputee out for revenge...
Dan-o,Chin Ho,Kono,Duke,Ben and Che Fong in the lab. A wonderful cast of characters.
6 seasons of the show are out on DVD, highly recommended by me and the Eclectic Banana.

Dead Kings Of Pop

I'm not watching any Michael Jackson "news" on tv and it seems to have been scaled back ( i guess you can only beat a dead horse so many times ) but my question is, have they buried him yet?
Maybe his corpse will go on tour with the Elephant man skeleton.
Why yes i am being sarcastic and mean no disrespect to his family and fans but get over it.

*now playing on winamp - Cramps "Surfin' Dead"*

Blog weirdness

OK i have no idea why i can't see my list of followers. Just when i think i've mastered the workings and ways of Blogger...
Well you who follow know who you are but seems i'm not supposed to! LOL

*Sigh*

I so loved Debbie Harry and i'm still a huge Blondie fan.
Here they are from 1975, i was 18 then but since i lived no where near New York i didn't hear about them until 1978 (i think in a issue of Creem magazine). I so wanted to live in New York city and be in a band back then. :)

Cool SF Tv Series You've Never Seen

Solarnauts a British tv pilot by Roberta Leigh who like Gerry Anderson made tv shows starring marionettes, this was her first live action ( something Gerry didn't get to do until UFO ). John Ringham, Derek Fowlds and the beautiful Martine (Bond and Hammer star) Beswick. I don't know why it didn't sell, production value was good and the story is what you'd expect for a 60's SF adventure show aimed mainly to kids.

Westerns

I love westerns, seems a lost art now. No more western heroes like John Wayne, Randolph Scott or even Clint Eastwood ( Clint has "retired" from acting ). To me the Western genre "grew up" in the 50's and we got thw wonderful "spaghetti westerns" of the 60's and although we got a few classic movies in the 70's the genre just started to die off. Changing times or young people just didn't care for a good western and wanted SF and Horror movies instead.
I have a wonderful memory of watching John Wayne and Kirk Douglas in The War Wagon at the local theater back in 1967.
Here's a list of Western movies i think are classic or just a good film to watch. Most are on DVD i think.

Fort Apache
Seven Men From Now
Wild Bunch
Big Hand For A Little Lady
The Good, The Bad And The Ugly
The Shootist
The War Wagon
Rio Bravo
The Searchers
High Plains Drifter
Ride Lonesome
For A Few Dollars More
Sabata
Magnificent Seven
100 Rifles
Cat Ballou
The Professionals
Unforgiven
Train Robbers
True Grit
Hombre
Big Country
and many more.

EB Movie Quiz

You know i love a good movie quiz ( No Smoking In The Skull Cave has a dandy one posted ) and thought i'd try one here on the E Banana Blog instead of my Live Journal.
I don't know how many people actually read the EB Blog but 1 of you might be a movie fan (assuming i have 1 or 2 readers that is ;) LOL ). So 5 screen caps i've made just tell me the movie.
